Phuket hoteliers and community volunteers come together to remove 3 tons of trash from island beaches

Phuket, Thailand – Over 500 hotel, resort and community volunteers across Phuket gathered this month to remove 3 tonnes of trash from the island’s coast, as part of a major two-day activity to mark the Phuket day green and the International coastal cleaning (CCI).
This incredible island-wide effort, which was organized by the Phuket Hotel Association in partnership with the THai Hotel Association, Patong Hotel Association and Phuket Tourism Association, was the largest coordinated coastal cleanup ever conducted on the island. Taking place on Tuesday September 14 and Wednesday September 15, 2021, it encompassed 25 separate sites across the island – up from 16 last year – including beaches, mangroves and underwater ecosystems.

Phuket Green Day is an annual event organized by the Phuket Hotels Association, to coincide with the ICC, a global coastal cleaning event launched by Ocean Conservancy. Since the launch of the ICC, more than 16 million volunteers have collected more than 154,000 tonnes of garbage from the coasts of more than 100 countries around the world.
