WESTFIELD, NJ – To celebrate Black History Month, Westfield is hosting educational community events throughout the month of February.

The Westfield Community Center and the Westfield Neighborhood Council will host an event on Friday, February 25 at Shady Rest Golf and Country Club – the first black and African-American owned golf and country club in the United States.

The event will include dinner, speakers, tributes and performances with Valarie Adams and the Dimensions Group. Tickets can be purchased through the Community Center or Neighborhood Council here.

General admission is $25.

Additionally, the Westfield Memorial Library, in conjunction with Friends of the Library, will host The African American History Project on Wednesday, February 16 at 7 p.m.

Presented by the Martin Luther King Association of Westfield, the program will reflect on the influence and importance of African Americans in Westfield, including slavery, the black occupational area, civic associations and the African American residential community from Brightwood Park.
